Lara Croft: Tomb Raider is a film inspired by the Tomb Raider video game series. Normally, the video game follows the film, but in this case it was the other way around. And then came the slot!
The first film was directed by Simon West and starred Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft. It came out in 2001. There was also a sequel released in 2003 called Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life.
This is a high octane, adrenaline pumping visual feast with a bag full of special effects and a sassy leading lady in the form of Angelina Jolie- who takes no prisoners. She is now making headlines being married to Brad Pitt of course. Think of a female Indiana Jones for the 21st Century and you have a good idea of the film.
The plot belts along like the tip of a whip and the action flits around the world in some stunning locations. A good escapist movie- definitely worth a watch.
Tomb Raider kicks off in Eygpt and sees Lara facing off against a huge robot in an Egyptian Tomb. The action starts here and continues at a pretty frenetic case throughout the film and sees her strutting her stuff in Cambodia, Venice and Siberia among other exotic locations.
Other actors include Daniel Craig and Jon Voight. Tomb Raider was a huge success at the box office and came on to the scene at number 1 with takings of almost $50million. It was Paramountīs 2nd best debut ever. The movie has taken gross receipts exceeding $300 million around the globe.
